Recently, Omaha Modern Streetcar Advocates has advocated for a “rail in the ground” streetcar route that would connect 42nd and Farnam Street to the Century Link arena, convention center and TD Ameritrade baseball park.
This proposed route lacks a unified purpose. While the arena, ball park and convention center are fun destinations for residents and visitors, the medical center and Mutual of Omaha are business destinations. It is difficult to imagine a baseball fan at TD Ameritrade Stadium wanting to take a streetcar ride to the Medical Center.
If Omaha wants a streetcar, the route should connect the zoo, the botanical garden with Century Link Center and TD Ameritrade. That would be a fun route for Omaha residents and visitors alike.
